Thank you so much for your ongoing support and helping me as we continue to work towards achieving the beloved community that my father so often addressed in his writings and speeches. I am personally thankful that you are willing to take up an offering that will help to support The King Center’s work.
As we observe my father’s 85th birthday this year, I want you to know that I support your efforts to continue to honor my father’s legacy of peace and nonviolence by having Chicago building’s lit up in blue lights. Your message of peace and nonviolence is especially timely, as we will also commemorate the 50th Anniversary of my father receiving the Nobel Peace Prize. With that in mind, we chose as our theme for this year’s King Holiday Observance, Remember! Celebrate! Act! King’s Legacy of Peace for Our World! In addition, this year, The King Center is launching a “Choose Nonviolence” campaign. As part of the campaign launch, I am calling on a moratorium on violence, with the statement “NO SHOTS FIRED – no tongue, fists or guns! For one day, I am asking that we honor my father’s memory by not engaging in any form of violence.
I would value having your support for this initiative, as well as an online program called the 100 Days of Nonviolence” which provides a framework for beginning to educate the world about the importance of choosing nonviolence as a lifestyle.
Feel free to use any part of the second paragraph for the statement of support you requested. Again, I truly value and appreciate your friendship and support, and look forward to possibly seeing you in the New Year!
