WGN News: Mayor Emanuel, religious leaders call for peace on Chicago streets

Chicago’s Mayor Rahm Emanuel joined community leaders and members at a rally to call for peace in Chicago streets after a deadly and violent weekend.

There were 31 shootings, 44 victims, 8 who died.

Father Michael Pfleger was also among the leaders speaking at St. Sabina church Monday night.

Pfleger pledged $5,000 for actual names of anybody who provides guns to bangers.

Earlier, the U.S. attorney announced restructuring for a specialized unit for violent street crime.

16 prosecutors, focused on gangs and guns and using drug, gun and extortion statutes to do it.

Additionally, Superintendent Garry McCarthy oversaw the promotion of 80 sergeants and the swearing in of new recruits. He says they’ll be on the streets by this summer and the sgts part of their gang crime strategy.
