Lent 2014

lenten-cross-2014As our journey through Lent begins, the shadow of the cross falls upon our path. As we begin this forty-day journey (forty-six if you include Sundays) we try to envision what may be in store for us and what God is preparing us for. Remembering Jesus' forty days in the wilderness, the trials, temptations, and vulnerability one encounters in seeking to reflect, to shed, to open oneself, to prepare. Lent is a time for getting back to the basics. It is a time for examining and reevaluating our priorities.

During this season of Lent, use this time to really hear what God is saying to you. what are those things (ie. a relationship, a habit, etc.) that is hindering your relationship with God?

Write what you have identified on the index cards located on the table next to the cross and pin it to the cross as a sign of our willingness to crucify those things and release it to God.

12 Characteristics of a Healthy Church

  1. Is a teaching church. Shares the Word in a way people understand and people are hungry for the Word.
  2. Is a mature church. Mature people are committed. They are growing spiritually and make the Word flesh.
  3. Intentionally engaged in relationship building. A church that fellowships; ministries are the cell groups where we live out our faith; people are involved.
  4. Believes in communion. Never forgets the importance and sacredness of the Lord's Supper - where we become one.
  5. Church of intercession. A praying church is a powerful church. Keeps the lines of communication open with God.
  6. Expects miracles and manifestations. Sees transformed lives through their ministry.
  7. Church that operates in unity. One that encourages and builds up each other.
  8. Church of givers. They know the principles of sowing and reaping
  9. Church that is portable and not tied to the physical church building. Church of relationship not religion.
  10. Church that praises. Praise is contagious.
  11. Experiences favor with the people. Has the respect of community in which they are situated.
  12. Church that is growing. Everyone is an evangelist.

Building a Church of Leaders!

I will be teaching a series on the life of Peter, the first leader of the church. As we study his calling, purpose and his journey in life, we will examine our own calling to be a church of leaders.
